There comes a time in every runner’s journey when things get, well, boring. The usual loop loses its spark, and the thought of another three-mile run feels like a chore. To break up the monotony, I introduce to you: Running Adventure Bingo.

It’s like a running activity bucket list with a gamification element to add fun and motivation to your running routine. Think of it as a grid full of fun, motivating challenges and adventure runs to keep you moving forward toward your running goals. Whether you’re traveling, entering the off-season, or just need something to shake up your routine, this is a low-pressure, high-fun way to fall back in love with running.

Why Try a Running Adventure Bingo Card?

Here is a way to add variety and excitement to your running routine.

Overall the goal is to prevent burnout and keep things fresh during long training cycles. Whether you’re looking to build your own running bucket list or spice up your training plan, this running bingo card idea is a fun and flexible way to spice up your goal-setting. What’s really nice is it doesn’t require a partner (although you could pair up with a friend for accountability). It’s a great way to stay motivated in the off-season or inspire adventure while you’re traveling somewhere new.

What Counts as a Running Adventure?

A running adventure is very subjective. We’re not necessarily talking about a wilderness run (unless you want to). This is something you’d want to create to ensure what is going to get you excited and show up for your runs.

When creating your bingo card, create a list of experiences you’d want to experience as part of your running journey. Pick either 9, 16, or 25 items to create your running bingo card (depending on whether your template is 3, 4, or 5 squares across). If you’d like to leave your squares up to chance, include more ideas than squares to ensure an element of excitement for what’s left behind.

How to Use a Running Bucket List Bingo Card

Once you have your list created, write your items on little pieces of paper and put them in a hat. Pull each piece of paper out of the hat so the placement is in a random order on the card. Use Canva to set up a template (there are plenty of cute free options if you don’t have a Pro account).
