Flying long haul can either feel like a mini spa day in the sky or pure anxiety, depending on how you pack. After several long haul trips last year, I’ve dialed in a few travel accessories that make the experience more manageable. Whether you’re running a marathon overseas or finally booking a girls trip, having these travel finds in your bag will keep you comfortable, organized, and maybe even a little more rested when you land.

A Neck Pillow That Actually Supports Your Head
Not all travel pillows are created equal. I finally found one that allows me to actually sleep on a plane! Bonus, it folds flat into my bag.
The Trtl pillow is so soft and supportive. It keeps my head so secure and I can fall asleep on an overnight flight! I dread jet lag and I want to get my circadian rhythm set as quickly as possible once I’ve arrived at my destination, so this is a huge help. Having a comfortable travel pillow is essential for reducing jet lag. I also love it comes with a travel pouch so it stays clean in my carry-on bag. Pair it with a sleeping eye mask to sleep and I am good to go!

Noise-Canceling Headphones or Earplugs
Noise-canceling headphones are essential for tuning out the engine noise! With a neck pillow and a sleep mask, these are perfect for simulating your sleeping conditions on international flights.
I’ve tried the AirPod Pro 2 and the AirPod 4 design and personally, I prefer the AirPod 4. The design is similar to the comfort of my original AirPods without the pressure or discomfort. You can flip the mode from noise canceling to transparent if you get headaches after extended use.
For earplugs, I’m a fan of the Loop earplugs. They’re fashionable, great for concerts and really discreet.

Compression Socks for Long Flights
I wear compression socks every time I fly (not just to wear on a long haul flight). My legs are so thankful! Compression socks help reduce swelling during your flight. These are my favorite knee-high socks for compression! If you’re looking for full leg version, I have several pairs of these compression socks and they’re really comfortable (they are considered a medical device, so make sure to measure your legs before ordering. You might be able to use your FSA funds to reimburse your purchase!).
Bonus: Compression socks are a win-win because they’re perfect for after-race recovery.
A Portable Power Bank with Multiple Ports
Charge your phone, tablet, and wireless earbuds at the same time without fighting for outlets at the gate or with your seat neighbor. Even though I have multiple chargers, more products are requiring a USB-C outlet as standard. I bought this charging pack battery so I could charge my items with a portable charger regardless if it is a USB or a USB-C cord.
Long Haul Flight Skin Essentials
Think: face wipes, deodorant, toothbrush!
I keep a few toiletries in my bag so I can freshen up mid-flight. There is nothing quite like washing your face after a long flight starts to get to you. Organize them in a cute toiletry pouch. I also include a hair-tie and a hairbrush. Include a few pamper items like eye masks from Grace&Stella or a face mask for a truly luxurious experience. If you need to freshen up, try these deodorant Lume wipes.

A Tablet for In-Flight Movies
Bring a tablet with a few movies or tv shows. While I’m currently still using my tablet from 2018, you can get a newer model here on Amazon. Remember to charge your device ahead and download a movie or series on Netflix in advance. Set it up on your tray table and get comfortable for the long journey ahead!
BYOWB – Bring Your Own Water Bottle
Bring your own (empty) reusable water bottle and easily fill it up after security. This tip is helpful for refilling on your trip to have water on your excursions or in your hotel room. The Hydroflask is a perfect water bottle because of its insulated body that keeps water cold. This Hydrojug 40oz bottle fits in a cupholder and seals like an insulated bottle. If you’re limited on space and heading to a race? Use your race hydration to have accessible water during your flight.
Pro-Tip: While you can’t bring water through TSA, you can bring ice. If you want extra cold water for your trip, this is a game changer.
Slippers for Long Flights
I never understood why people take their shoes off on flights until my first nine hour flight. Sleeping with shoes on was so uncomfortable and it’s nice to take the time to relax. These slippers are so cozy and have memory foam to support your feet! Just remember to put your shoes back on when using the lavatory.

Snacks You Can Bring on a Flight
I always pack something savory and a sweet little treat. This keeps me from panic-buying overpriced snacks. Flying can be really dehydrating so bring a few electrolyte tablets like Liquid Hydration (my favorite flavor is Firecracker Popsicle) or Let’z Go electrolyte powder sticks.

Packing Cubes or In-Flight Organizer Pouch
I love a good organization system and flying is one of those places. Planes are already tight enough so having to hunt through my bag under the seat is so uncomfortable. Keep your items organized with pouches or baggies. These are my go-to packing cubes and they’re life-changing!
